Ethics Paper Topics Related to Computer Programming
Ethics Paper Topics Related to Computer ProgrammingThere are many ethical paper topics related to computer programming and the computer industry. Here is an overview of what you might encounter while studying for your college course. We should always be concerned with our own safety and the safety of others. Protecting our self from liability, and protecting others from harms are issues of utmost importance to computer programmers. Knowing and understanding these issues is a key part of making your decisions and programming safely. Students are taught to be vigilant in these areas, just as doctors and other health care professionals must be.Many ethics papers come up with arguments against one specific type of activity, like the use of drugs and medical procedures, or the negative points of using exploitation, slavery, and dehumanization. This is where students learn to be highly skilled at analyzing and identifying the difference between what is right and wrong in their own choices. They learn about how to remain objective, when it comes to determining which course of action is best for themselves and others.Ethical programmers must be able to anticipate and plan for unforeseen consequences of their own choices. They must think about the implications of their choices before they even make them. Choices are rarely made on the spur of the moment, and many times these choices have been carefully considered. If a programmer finds themselves in a situation where an unethical choice is made, they should not be quick to place blame. The blame should be placed squarely on the shoulders of the individual who made the decision that was inappropriate, or something unethical was done. Giving the blame directly to the individuals will help build integrity into the company as well. The ethical choices that programmers make are limited by their ability to foretell the future or predict what may occur in the future. When this is the case, programmers need to rely on their common sense. A decision needs to be made even if it is against a larger goal of the company, such as the goal of the CEO, or a company goal, like the company mission statement. Some of the best ethical choices come from developing personal choices and not from blindly following the leaders. As a mentor, this is my biggest challenge. I see that a lot of my students can look at me and see the leader, but it is not always the case with them.In many ways, learning about ethics and computer programming is very similar to working on personal ethics. Programming involves everything from decisions about ethical choices to working on personal ethical skills. With good ethics training, we can help people avoid the pitfalls of untrustworthy and unethical people and help them develop the skills to make more responsible choices.
